10-7.3. Oil Sump and Oil Suction Tube Repair and Replacement
Procedure
WARNING
If all power is not disconnected, a loose or broken wire could
cause the engine to start and the propeller to rotate. Do not
stand or allow anyone else to stand within the arc radius of the
propeller.
1.
Disconnect engine electrical power; turn the Ignition Switch to the OFF position.
NOTE: For most engine installations, the engine must be removed
to remove the oil sump. Follow appropriate engine removal
instructions in Chapter 5 of TCM Overhaul Manual (OH-24).
2.
Replace the oil sump following the “Oil Sump Removal” instructions in Chapter 6 of
the TCM Overhaul Manual (OH-24). Install a new oil sump as instructed in the
section “Oil Sump Installation” in Chapter 11 of the TCM Overhaul Manual (OH-24).
3.
The oil suction tube to the oil pump housing plug gasket can be removed and replaced
as described in the section “Oil Suction Tube Installation” in Chapter 11 of the
Overhaul Manual (OH-24); however, the oil sump will need to be removed to gain
access to the oil suction tube assembly.
4.
Perform an “Engine Operational Check” according to the instructions in Chapter 6,
Operational Performance Checks.
10-7.4. Oil Cooler Repair and Replacement
Procedure
WARNING
If all power is not disconnected, a loose or broken wire could
allow the engine to start and the propeller to rotate. Do not
stand or place equipment within the arc of the propeller.
1.
Disconnect engine electrical power; turn the Ignition Switch to the OFF position.
2.
Remove the oil cooler as described in the section “Oil Cooler Removal” in Chapter 6,
of the TCM Overhaul Manual.
3.
Send the oil cooler to an appropriately rated repair station, i.e. FAA approved Part
145 repair station. No structural repairs are allowed on the oil cooler.
4.
Replace any oil cooler exhibiting structural damage, i.e. bent/broken or cracked
cooling fins, with a new or serviceable oil cooler. Weld repairs to the oil cooler
mounting flange must be accomplished by an appropriately rated repair station, i.e.
FAA approved Part 145 repair station.
5.
Install the oil cooler or according to “Oil Cooler Installation” instructions in Chapter
12 of TCM Overhaul Manual (OH-24).
6.
Perform an “Engine Operational Check” according to the instructions in Chapter 6,
Operational Performance Checks.
