1. Description
The WHA 700 hot gas station was developed for careful soldering tasks on large-surface and
tall-pin SM components. The temperature of the hot gas is controlled electronically and is
infinitely variable between 50° C and 550° C. To operate the unit, mains voltage and 4 - 6 bar
of clean and oil-free compressed air or inert gas (nitrogen N2) is required. The gas flow is is
infinitely variable within the range 10 - 50 l./min. using a flow control valve and is activated
by means of a foot switch (1st stage). Fluctuations in the supply pressure are balanced out
by an internal pressure regulator.
An integrated compressed air converter produces the necessary vacuum to be able to lift off
even large SM components during the de-soldering process. The vacuum can also be activated
via the foot switch (2nd level). When switching on the unit at the mains switch, a ”standby”
function with a reduced quantity of air for pre-heating the nozzle is automatically activated.
The hot gas flow is free of static charge. A desired potential balance can be connected via a
3,5mm socket on the front of the unit. The unit’s housing is coated with a durable, conductive
varnish. All the requirements of EGB protection are thereby satisfied.
Technical data

720W (750W)
Hot gas pencil power consumption:
700W (730W)

Flow control:
Infinitely variable between 10 - 50 litres/min.

2. Commissioning
Place the hot gas pencil in the safety rest. Check whether the mains voltage is consistent
with the information on the type plate. If the mains voltage is correct, connect the unit to the
mains. Plug the electrical connection lead of the hot gas pencil into the 7-pin connector
GB
socket (1) and lock. Place the vacuum tube (internal diameter 3mm) on the vacuum nipple
(5). Place the gas tube (internal diameter 4mm) on the air nipple (3).
To operate the WHA 700, clean, dry and oil-free compressed air is required. The compressed
air connector (12) is located on the rear of the unit. For connection purposes a compressed
air tube appropriate to the operating pressure and with an external diameter of 6mm is
required. Set the desired temperature on the rotary potentiometer (6) and the gas flow on the
regulating valve (7) and switch on the unit at the mains switch (8).
Warning: Do not point the hot gas pencil at people or flammable objects.
Heating and ”standby” function with reduced air quantity is activated and the green LED (4)
flashes.
Following operation of the foot switch (1st stage), the set gas flow is activated. The heating-
up time of the nozzle depends essentially on the size of the nozzle and the gas flow.
3. Equipotential bonding
The various circuit elements of the 3,5 mm jack bush make 4 variations possible:
Hard-grounded:
No plug (delivery form)
Equipotential bonding:
With plug, equalizer at center contact (impedance 0 ohms)
Potential free:
With plug
Soft-grounded:
With plug and soldered resistance. Grounding with set
resistance value.
4. Operating guidelines
Gas flow
The set gas flow is activated by the 1st stage of the foot switch (or optional manual control
desk). In the absence of a gas flow, a thermal switch incorporated into the handpiece switches
off the heater circuit when the handle overheats.
