2.4.3 PED category and maximum allowable pressure PS
The nameplate of the compressor contains information about the maximum allowable pressure PS,
the minimum and maximum allowed temperature TS, the internal f ree volume and the f luid groups
of the ref rigerants qualified for the compressor model range. Values are given f or the two existing
pressure ranges on low- and high-pressure side.

The PED category is assigned according to the Pressure Equipment Directive PED 2014/68/EU.
Requirements apply to the relevant pressure levels in the compressor if a limit value for the product
of pressure relative to the environment and relevant internal f ree volume is exceeded. For the
calculation of the PED category, a differentiation must be made between the high- and low-pressure
sides. The highest of the calculation results is considered to determine the PED category .
YB*K1E scroll compressors can be operated with both A1 and A2L ref rigerants. To determine the
PED category a distinction is made between ref rigerants of f luid group 1 (f lammable) and f luid
group 2 (non-flammable). As a result, identical compressor models may be subject to different PED
categories depending on the refrigerant used.
