Frame the Inglenook Fireplace with vertical studs on each side of the fireplace. These studs
should run from floor to ceiling as shown in Figure 12. If combustible facing is to be used,
space the studs back from the front edge of the fireplace by the thickness of the facing
material. This will ensure that when the facing material is installed, it will be flush with the
front edge of the Inglenook Fireplace.
CAUTION:
Do not extend combustible material
on to face of fireplace. Frame headers between the vertical studs only as follows:

Place 2” x 3” or 2” x 4” headers, only along the upper part of the front, side and back
faces. Headers and Framing must not be any closer than stand offs permit. Do not
put wood or any combustible material within the area above the fireplace except on
the front facing.

Place headers as required or to support the facing and mantel.
