4-4 Using WebCam Control with the VFW driver
Choosing the size
of the image
Select the desired output size for the image from the Resolution list.
For recording live video, these resolutions are ideal: 160 x 120, 176 x 144, 320 x 240, and
352 x 288. These lower resolutions will give you a higher frame rate.
For capturing still images, larger resolutions are more suitable.
WebCam can capture images of up to 640 x 480 pixels in size.
Note that large image sizes require more disk space to store the image files or video clips.
Large image sizes also slow down the frame rate and increase transfer times for downloading
from or uploading to web pages.
Choosing the
color depth
Select the desired color depth for the image from the Pixel Depth (bits) and Compression list.
The options available are:
❑
12 ; I420, which is Intel Raw YUV (raw input)
❑
24 ; RGB, which is 24-bit RGB (16.7 million colors)
❑
16 ; RGB, which is 16-bit RGB (65K colors)
Table 4-1 below shows you the color depth modes that are available at each supported
resolution.
