❏
Inspect bottom paint for deterioration,
prep and paint any bare areas. If you are
using “ablative” bottom paint, make sure
to lightly scuff bottom 24 hours before
launching to reactivate the paint.
ENGINES AND FUEL SYSTEMS:
❏
Inspect fuel lines, including fill and vent
hoses, for softness, brittleness or
cracking. Check all joints for leaks and
make sure all lines are well supported with
non-combustible clips or straps with
smooth edges.
❏
Inspect fuel tanks, fuel pumps and filters
for leaks. Clamps should be snug and free
of heavy rust. Clean fuel filters.
❏
Inspect cooling hoses and fittings for
stiffness, rots, leaks and/or cracking.
Make sure they fit snugly and are double-
clamped on all hoses below water line.
❏
Remove and inspect exhaust manifolds
for corrosion every two years. Undetected
exhaust manifold failures can cause
serious engine damage.
❏
Clean and tighten electrical connections,
especially both ends of battery cables.
Wire-brush battery terminals and fill cells
with distilled water.
❏
Inspect bilge blower hose for leaks or
blockage.
❏
If stored with full fuel tanks we
recommend adding “Stabil” or some type
of Isopropyl additive to reduce moisture in
gasoline powered boats.
IN THE WATER:
❏
Check the engine shaft and rudder
stuffing boxes for steady leaks and
looseness. If equipped with Tides
Dripless Shaft Logs, make sure to read
the literature so they are torqued to proper
specifications.
❏
Use a hose to check for deck leaks at
ports and hatches. Renew caulks or
gaskets as necessary.
❏
Check engine mount bolts to ensure they
are tight.
❏
Check engine alignment and coupler
bolts.
MISCELLANEOUS:
❏
Check expiration dates on flares and fire
extinguishers.
❏
Inspect bilge pump and float switch to
make sure they are working properly.
❏
Inspect dock and anchor lines for chafing.
❏
Update or replace old charts, waterway
guides.
❏
Make sure your boating license and/or
registration is up-to-date.
❏
Review your yacht insurance policy and
update coverage if needed.
❏
Make sure you have properly sized and
wearable life preservers in good condition
for each passenger, including children
and pets.
