Precautions
Modern integrated electronic devices, including the RS Monitor,
are extremely sensitive to electrostatic discharges (ESD) and
fields. Before you work inside the RS Monitor, be sure to follow
these simple precautions to protect you and the monitor from harm
caused by ESD.
1. To avoid electric shock, always disconnect power from the
monitor before you open the back cover. Do not touch any
internal components of the monitor while the monitor is on.
2. Disconnect power before performing any internal mainte-
nance or troubleshooting.
3. Only handle internal components of the monitor in an ESD-
safe location, using appropriate grounding methods:
•
Wear an ESD wrist strap connected to an effective, known
earth ground.
•
Always ground yourself to remove any static charge be-
fore you touch the video controller board inside the mon-
itor’s back cover.
•
Be particularly careful not to touch the components on the
video controller board.
•
Keep any monitor part in its anti-static packaging when it
is not installed in the monitor and place it on a static dis-
sipative mat when you are working on it.
Opening and Closing
the Back Cover
In order to perform internal maintenance on the PowerStation RS
Monitor, you will have to open and close the back cover of the
unit. Those procedures are described here.
