•
Hub motors: The hub motors are 3-phase,
brushless DC motors that are mounted onto a
pair of drop axles to drive the rear wheels.
See Figure 5.7.
NOTE:
The motor harness is part of the motor and
can not be serviced. Any damage to the
wires or the connector and the whole motor
will need to be replaced.
•
Seat switch: The seat switch used on the RZT-
S Zero is a Double Pole Single Throw (DPSPT)
switch. Unlike most MTD seat switches, this
switch is a Normally Open (N.O.). switch.
See Figure 5.8.
The seat switch receives 5 volts from the char-
ger door switch through a brown wire (early
production units may have a red wire with a
white trace). The wire splits and provides power
to both circuits of the seat switch. The orange
wire and the orange wire with a white trace both
carry the power back to the VCM as an input
signal. If the two signals do not match, the VCM
will disable the wheel and deck motors while
showing a fault code.
•
Charger door switch: There is a Single Pole
Double Throw (SPDT) switch on the charger
door that send a signal to the VCM, telling it if
the charger is plugged in or not. If the VCM
senses that the charger door is open, it will shut
down and prompt the operator to restart the
mower. See Figure 5.9.
NOTE:
The charger door switch is considered a
safety critical component. It receives 5 volts
from the VCM through the red wire with a
white trace. If the charger door is closed, the
switch will close and allow the voltage signal
to go back to the VCM through the brown
wire. The brown wire will branch off and also
supply 5 volts to the seat switch. If the char-
ger door is open, the VCM losses its signal
from the charger door and the seat switch.
