1 TROUBLESHOOTING, SERVICING, AND MAINTENANCE
This section is prepared to help the owners / operators diagnose the probable causes and
determine appropriate corrective actions. For additional information on more specific trouble
shooting procedures, refer to the engine Operat
or’s Manual and their Maintenance and
Overhaul Manual.

OVERHAUL OF THE ENGINE. THE ENGINE OVERHAUL MANUAL MUST BE CONSULTED
FOR SUCH OPERATIONS.

Clean tank vents, blowout supply
line, replace shut-off valve, repair
pump, clean filter.

Remove carburetor and repair.

Carburetor screen or jets
plugged.
Remove and clean.

Insufficient priming (weak
explosions).
Repeat starting procedure with more
priming.
Excess priming (puffs of black
smoke).
Clear cylinders by turning propeller
several revolutions, with ignition
switch "OFF", throttle wide open.
Engine hot (vapor lock in fuel
system).
Disconnect fuel line at carburetor
and purge system.

Low battery charge
Recharge battery.

Cold oil.
Turn propeller by hand several
revolutions to break loose congealed
oil.
Incorrect starter adjustment.
Readjust shift lever screw.

Spark plugs fouled.
Remove and clean. Check gaps.

Spark plug cables defective.
Replace defective parts.

Incorrect idle mixture adjustment.
Correct carburetor adjustment.

Disassemble, as required, and

Tighten loose joints. Replace
