Lesson 15
Working with Clips
A Clip is a stored rhythmic phrase for a single instrument that can be
used to build patterns quickly. Clips are especially useful for adding
commonly used building blocks into your patterns.
Your drum machine can store up to 16 Clips for each instrument and
includes some sample clips. All Clip slots can be overwritten with your
own Clips. The Clips menu can be accessed in Pattern Write mode while
the sequencer is running.
Insert a Clip Into a Pattern
Inserting an instrument Clip will overwrite the pattern's contents for that
instrument. Let's add a Clip into an existing pattern:
1. Switch to Pattern Write mode. Select a pattern to modify or
choose a new empty pattern.
2. Press
[START/STOP]
to start the sequencer.
3. Set the
Track/Instrument
switch to the Bass Drum (BD).
4. Press
[FUNC]
+
[CLIPS]
to enter the Clips menu. The display will
show the available Clips for the current instrument with dim
yellow indicators. Empty Clip slots are shown with rim red
indicators.
5. Press
[1]
to audition Bass Drum Clip #1. You will hear this Bass
Drum rhythm played in your pattern. Try other Bass Drum Clips
as well.
6. Once you've selected a Clip, press
[FUNC]
to apply the Clip to
your pattern and exit the Clips menu, or press
[CLEAR]
to exit the
menu without applying the Clip.
Tip!
While in the Clips menu, you can insert Clips into different
instruments by turning the
Track/Instrument
switch and selecting a Clip
for whichever instruments you choose.
