3.6 Powering Down an Appliance
Use ESD best practices when powering down an appliance and disconnecting
equipment.
Power Down and Disconnect an Appliance Best Practice
1.
Turn off everything (unless otherwise instructed).
2.
Remove the power cord from the outlet.
Note:
The power button will be blue until the residual
power is depleted by the power supply.
3.
Remove the signal cables from the connectors.
4.
Removed all cables from the appliance.
An Appliance may be powered down in any of the following ways:
From the operating system (OS):
l
On the GNU/Linux command line, enter
shutdown -h now
Using the Front Panel Power Button:
l
Press and release the power button.
This requests a shutdown from the OS. If the OS acknowledges the request, the
appliance powers down.
OR
l
Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds.
This notifies the OS and removes power after the 10 second window, regardless of the
OS response.
Using the Appliance Management Tools:
l
Issue the
directly through Ethernet or serial port access.
OR
l
Use 3rd Party Appliance Management tools or the web-browser based management
utility to power down.
