SECTION 5
THE ANSWERING MACHINE
Comfort includes a built-in digital answering machine. Unlike the older
conventional answering machines, there is no recording tape required -
the messages are stored in nonvolatile semiconductor memory which is
maintained even if Comfort were to be switched off and the battery
disconnected for several year. Up to 8 mailboxes can be set up for
different members of the family, with access using each user’s individual
user code, ensuring privacy for mailboxes. Alternately, a common
mailbox can be set up with all users having access to the common
messages by using their own user code. The mailboxes have a combined
capacity of 10 minutes of recorded messages, with a maximum of 128
messages.
The answering machine has advanced features not normally found in a
stand-alone answering machine, like forwarding old new messages to
mobile phones, auto-erase of the oldest saved messages when mailbox is
full, recording of internal memo messages to any mailbox, and call
screening via keypad.
Greeting Message
To allow incoming callers to record messages, the Greeting message
must be recorded. If there is no recorded greeting message, when
Comfort answers the phone after the programmed number of rings, it
will ask for a user code to allow access into the Voice Menu.

When a Greeting message has been recorded, the caller will hear the
message, for example
“We can’t come to the phone, please leave us a message and
we will call you back... <beep>..
The caller can then record a message to any of the mailboxes or the
common mailbox.
A user who wants to access the Comfort Voice menu must press * while
the Greeting message is playing, followed by the user code (default
1234) and the # key.
