This User’s Guide provides instruction for installing the Switch, making the proper connections
to an Ethernet network, and setting the configurations using the built-in console interface.
Conventions
For simplicity, this documentation uses the terms “Switch” (first letter upper case) to refer to
both the DES-1218 and DES-1226 Ethernet Switch, and “switch” (first letter lower case) to refer
to all Ethernet switches, including the DES-1218 and DES-1226. When a distinction between the
two models is necessary, the model number will be given to distinguish between them.
