etwork, an interconnected set
of computers and other devices, in an office
for example.
Leased-Line
A phone line, usually “rented” from a
phone company, which is dedicated to the
sole use of the “renter.” Internet access
speeds are faster using a leased-line, be-
cause there is no bandwidth sharing.

iode – an electronic de-
vice that lights up when electricity is
passed through it. LEDs are commonly
used for status indicators on electronic de-
vices.

Megabits per second; millions of bits per
second.

Telnet
Terminal emulation for the TCP/IP proto-
col suite, used for interacting with remote
computers and devices.

Wire such as is commonly used with net-
working, consisting of pairs of copper wire
usually terminating in an RJ-45 connector.
