ABS (Anti-lock Brake System)
A sensor that exactly detects the
wheels speed is installed near the
wheels. The sensor sends the detected
to the ECU, which is installed inside
the vehicle, and the speed is used in a
calculation to supply and contril the
appropriately compressed air.
This control system does not activate
but just holds and detects during a
regular operation and while the brake
pedal is applied in a normal manner.
However it is activated in the following
situations, in which are expressed as
“
the ABS is in activation
”
.
Applying the brakes on a very
slippery surface.
Applying the brakes in an abrupt and
forceful manner.
However, it only activates when the
vehicle s speed and the road coefficient
of friction are satisfied.
When the brake is suddenly applied on
a slippery surface, the wheels do not
turn even though the vehicle is moving
at a fast speed. This state is called the
“
wheel lock
”
state.
The vehicle cannot be controlled in this
state and will eventually move off the
road. To prevent the wheels from
locking, the ABS accurately controls
the pressure in each wheel for better
control of the vehicle, and ultimately
allows a safe operation of the vehicle.
