Locations to Avoid Mounting Your Smoke Alarm
•
Less than 50cm (20 inches) from the peak of an A
frame type ceiling.
•
In an area where the temperature may fall below
0˚C (32˚F) or rise above 40˚C (104˚F), such as
garages or unfinished attics.
•
Do not install the alarm in a bathroom or places
that are prone to condensation.
•
Smoke alarms should not be installed within 3ft
(0.9m) of the following: the door to a kitchen, the
door to a bathroom containing a bath or shower,
forced air supply ducts used for heating or cooling,
ceiling or whole house ventilating fans or other
high air flow areas.
•
Near fluorescent lights including CFL lamps. Electronic
“noise” may cause false alarms.
Left
: Ensure the Smoke Alarm is
positioned at least 50cm (20 inches)
away from a wall when mounting it on
the ceiling and 50cm (20 inches) below
the ceiling when mounting it on a wall.
