Additional Oil
When charging is complete, add the correct amount of oil to each circuit. In installations with good oil
return and line runs up to 50 ft (15 m), no additional oil is required. If installation lines exceed 50 ft (15
m), additional oil needs to be added. 1 or 2% of the total system refrigerant charge (in weight) can be
used to roughly define the required oil top-up quantity.
Top-up the oil while the compressor is idle. Use any accessible connector on the compressor suction
line and a suitable pump. ALWAYS use clean original Danfoss POE oil 160SZ or equivalent from new
cans.
After charging, verifying subcooling and oil level.
Close the valve on the refrigerant manifold gauge set and close the service valve on the refrigerant
tank and disconnect the refrigerant manifold gauge set.
Flooded System Charging (Systems with Low Ambient Receiver Package)
NOTICE:
Prior to refrigerant charging, the proper tools and/or equipment must
be available, and the system vacuum and moisture removal procedure must
have been carried out. Refer to Section
5.3 Triple Evacuation and Dehydration Procedure
charging the system.
NOTICE:
Improper charging procedure could cause compressor damage in
several ways: excessive Low/High Pressure differences, liquid slugging or
vacuum operation. The below system refrigerant charge procedure is strongly
recommended to reduce these risks.
WARNING:
The compressor power must be OFF and safeties ON and
prevented from starting inadvertently/automatically.
WARNING:
If the system is charged from a vacuum, the preheating of the
compressor is not necessary. But if starting a compressor that has not
been charged from a vacuum, the crankcase heater must be energized
for a minimum of 12 hours to reduce the possibility of liquid slugging on
startup. Failure to energize the crankcase heater could result in
compressor damage.
