Make sure the graphics console keyboard connector on the computer unit rear
panel is
empty.
(This keyboard connector is a round, DIN-8 connector located
beneath the RESET and ABORT switch, labeled with a keyboard icon).

Make sure the system console cable is connected to the
first
computer unit
RS-232-C connector (labeled RS232A).
6.
Make sure the cables that connect your workstation components together are
secured tightly so that they make a good connection.
7.
Make sure the system console terminal is set to 9600 baud, 8 data bits, no parity.
For information on changing terminal switch settings, see the manual that
shipped with the terminal.

Turn the system console power on.

Move the system console brightness control to the maximum setting to ensure
the screen intensity is adjusted brightly enough for you to see messages on the
screen.
10. Make sure the cables that connect your computer system components together
are undamaged and their connectors are secured tightly so that they make a good
connection.
11. Turn power on to all connected peripherals.
12. Turn power on to the computer unit again.
13. If the display remains blank, your system console terminal or system console
terminal cables may have a problem. Try to power up using a different terminal.

Unclear Monitor Display (AViiON 530 Series)
Try the following if your monitor screen displays messages, but they are distorted or
unreadable.
NOTE: You may want to use AViiON System Diagnostics graphics tests to verify your
monitor display, as described in the manual

Make sure the default video timing parameters are properly set for your monitor.
To set video timing for the 70-Hertz color or monochrome monitor you received
from Data General, press
, and then type
after you hear one beep tone.
To set parameters for a 60-Hertz monitor, press
, and then type
after
you hear one beep tone. Try both frequencies if you are not certain of the correct
timing for your monitor.

If you have a color monitor, make sure the screen is properly demagnetized.
Press the Degauss switch (located next to and just beneath the monitor's power
button), shown in Figure CĆ1.
