Operational information
During mobilisation, demobilisation, and when a rod has been bent, it will be
necessary to remove and fit cone-rods. The following procedures should be
observed when undertaking these operations.
Cone-rod Removal
The following procedure describes the tasks required to remove a rod from the
Neptune 5000 CPT unit. The rod will leave the cassette in a circular anti
clockwise motion and not through the hole in the base plate.
1.
Remove the cone using the procedure laid out in the cone removal
section.
2.
Slacken the straightener mechanism and move the middle roller as far
back as possible. Remove the front plate to enable the rod to be pulled
from the roller assembly.
3.
Remove both rod guides from the front friction retaining plate.
4.
Remove the front friction retaining plate and lay it forwards around the
pedestal that houses the front bearing and encoder.
5.
Using the manual inverter rotate the cassette anticlockwise (THRUST) to
feed the rod slowly out of the cassette.
6.
Continue to THRUST the rod until the upper rod coupling is visible and
at a convenient position to remove.
7.
Undo the upper rod coupling bolt and remove the rod from the cassette
but only to a distance that will allow removal of the cone rod Subconn
connector. Once this is off the rod can be removed completely.
The cone rod will spring out when it is removed from the cassette.
Appropriate safe working practices should be followed to ensure that
all hazards are minimised.
