Table 2 Hardware and software requirements for cube installation (continued)
Component
Description
X400 platform cube requires 16 ports on the switch (all 10 GbE) + 4 recommended
1 GbE NIC port connections to the Integrated Dell Remote Access Controller
(iDRAC) ports on the nodes/sleds.
X400 capacity cube requires 4 ports on the switch (all 10 GbE or all 25 GbE) + 1
recommended 1 GbE NIC port connection to the iDRAC port on the cube.
VLAN
The X400 cubes must plug directly into a switch that supports VLAN. VLAN is
required for internal network connections and must be configured before powering
on the X400 cubes. See
Review the pre-configuration checklist
on page 58.
Direct attach (twinax) network cables or
optical SFP+ modules
Supplied at no cost from Dell EMC. The customer is given the choice of including
either direct attach (twinax) cables or optical SFP+ modules when ordering the
X400 Appliance.
SFPs for X400 platform cube
If optical (SFP+) cables are used (instead of twinax cables), 16 x 10 GbE SFPs can
be ordered as a kit from Dell EMC.
SFPs for X400 capacity cubes
If optical (SFP+) cables are used (instead of twinax cables), 4 x 10 GbE or 4 x 25
GbE SFPs can be ordered as a kit from Dell EMC. SFPs within all X400 capacity
cubes must match.
SFPs for switches
Customer supplied if optical (SFP+) cables are used.
LC-to-LC optical cables
The LC-to-LC optical cables are an option and can be ordered from Dell EMC or
can be customer supplied.
RJ45 network cables
Cat6 cables for connecting to iDRAC network connection. Optional but strongly
recommended. iDRAC configuration and cabling provides an out-of-band method
for remote management and may be required for Dell EMC support engineers to
debug and troubleshoot.
DHCP server
In the customer data center. Used for initial configuration of iDRAC connections.
Note:
If a DHCP server is not available, you must use the mini-Display Port
(mini-DP) to VGA adapter included with the X400 Appliance with a keyboard,
monitor, and mouse for the initial iDRAC configuration.
SMTP server (optional but
recommended)
In the customer data center. The X400 Appliance sends alert emails to Dell EMC
support and to a configured list of recipients.
DNS
In the customer data center. Assumes that network names will be used instead of
IP addresses.
Laptop
Laptop with mDNS installed on it. See
Review the pre-configuration checklist
on
page 58.
NTP server address
Cubes require access to an NTP server for time synchronization.
IP Addresses
Review the pre-configuration checklist
on page 58.
