when you connect to the appliance. If the laptop does not have external internet
connectivity, you will need to perform the following steps to manually download a
PowerProtect X400 license prior to connecting to the appliance.

2. From the list of products, select PowerProtect X400.

3. On the Dell EMC Software Licensing Central page, click Activate My Software.
4. On the Activate page, enter the LAC code, and then click Activate.
5. Select the feature to activate, and then click Start Activation Process.
6. Select Add a Machine to specify any meaningful string for grouping licenses.
For the machine name, enter any string that helps you to keep track of your
licenses. (It does not have to be a machine name.)
7. Enter the quantities for each feature, or select Activate All, and then click
Next.
8. Optionally, specify an addressee to receive an email summary of the activation
transaction.
9. Click Finish.
10. Click Save to File to save the license file (
.lic
) on the laptop you will use for
the initial login to the PowerProtect X400 Appliance Configuration UI.
Install mDNS on the laptop used for the initial login to the
PowerProtect X400 Appliance Configuration UI
The initial login to the X400 Appliance Configuration UI requires the multicast DNS
(mDNS) protocol. The laptop you use for the initial login to the UI must have mDNS
installed on it and it must be connected to an available switch port that is in the same
L2 network in which the X400 platform cube resides.
Before you begin
The software required to install mDNS on the laptop is:

MacOS/iOS: no additional software required
Procedure
1. Download the Bonjour software to your laptop from
.
2. Connect your laptop to the X400 Appliance network switch on the external
(public) VLAN side using a LAN cat6 cable.
3. If you have a McAfee firewall on your laptop, disable it.
4. Confirm that the Windows OS firewall is fully disabled.
5. Change the laptop network port attached to the external network to an internal
network IP. Provide private network IP address 169.254.1.20/255.255.255.0 to
the network port on your laptop.
