Trusted Platform Module (TPM)
Overview
Trusted Platform Module, or TPM, is a security device that holds computer-generated keys for encryption. It is a hardware-based solution
that prevents hacking attempts to capture passwords, encryption keys, and other sensitive data. The security features provided by the
TPM are internally supported by:
•
Hashing
•
Random number generation
•
Asymmetric key generation
•
Asymmetric encryption/decryption
Each TPM has a unique signature initialized during the silicon manufacturing process that enhances the trust/security effectiveness. Every
TPM must have an owner before it can be utilized. The TPM user must be physically present to take ownership. After this procedure is
completed and the TPM has a unique owner, the TPM is activated.
