RRP: Fan assembly

CAUTION
Disassembling any part of the fan assembly voids the part warranty and regulatory certifications.
There are no user-serviceable parts inside the fan assembly.
Because the cooling system relies on pressurized air, do not leave any of the fan assembly slots
empty longer than two minutes while the switch is operating. If a fan assembly fails, leave it in the
switch until it can be replaced.
Maintain all three fan assemblies in operational condition to provide redundancy.

Determining the need to replace a fan assembly
Use one of the following methods:

Check the fan status LED on the face of the fan assembly (see

In Web Tools, click the Fan Status icon.

Enter the fanShow command at the prompt:

Replacing a fan assembly in the PowerConnect B-8000 should require less than two minutes to
complete.

The following items are required to replace a fan assembly in the PowerConnect B-8000:

New fan assembly

Verify that the fan FRU is seated
correctly.
Steady green
Fan assembly is operating normally.

Steady amber (for more than
5 seconds)
Fan fault for one of the following reasons:
•
One or more of the fans in the fan
assembly has failed.
•
The fan FRU was disabled by the user.
Verify that the fan FRU is enabled. If
the fan FRU is enabled and the FRU
is faulty, it should be replaced.
