STEP 8
USING THE AUXILIARY POWER SOURCE
The DS-AFX timer is equipped with an auxiallry power supply that can be used to power the humidifier
motor. To connect the motor to this power source use the following instructions.
1. Disconnect old power source/wiring from humidifier motor, if applicable.
2. Run 18/22 gauge wire from one side of the power source to one leg of the humidistat. (Wire not supplied)
3. Run 18/22 gauge wire from second side of power source to one leg of the motor.
4. Connect the second leg of the motor to the second leg on the humidistat.
Note: Because power is 24VAC it does not matter which leg of humidistat /motor is connected to the
power supply.
NOTE: Before installing AutoFlush, thoroughly inspect humidifier basin and disc wheel.
Remove all scale and other debris that may clog-up AutoFlush pump and prevent a proper drain.
Turn water supply on, fill humidifier basin and check all connections for leaks.
STEP 9
Insert transformer connector to AutoFlush and plug-in transformer to nearest 110/120V outlet.
The centre, green LED with light in the factory default ’24-hour’ position will light.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
1.
Testing the Pump
Press and hold the function button for 4 seconds and release. The AutoFlush pump will energize
for 45 seconds and automatically stop. Check water flow for blockage. After flush cycle has ended,
ensure water stops flowing from drain tube (see Note under Installation Step 5). The timer will start
count-down as per interval time setting for next flush cycle.
2.
Adjusting the Interval Time
The flush cycle defaults to 24 hours when power is brought to the unit. To change the time interval,
quickly press and release the function button to cycle through the other timer options.
NOTE: In the factory setting, a normal flush cycle drains approximately 1 gallon/4 litres per day,
which ensures the basin water is refreshed daily and scale is removed before it can accumulate to
significant levels. The amount of scale formation depends on local water quality and the amount
of daily evaporation in the humidifier. If clogging from scale is encountered, select the 12 hour
interval. Alternatively, if scaling is minimal, the 48 hour may be selected.
3.
Selecting Winter/Summer Mode
The AutoFlush defaults to winter mode when power is brought to the unit. This is the normal
operating mode. If there is a power failure in winter-mode, the timer remembers its selected
interval time, but the count-down will reset from the resumption of power. To stop the timer
function during the summer shut down, disconnect the power, or press and hold function button
for 10 seconds and release. This turns the LED light off and the timer function is disabled. The unit
will not reset from a power failure event. To switch back to winter mode, press and hold the function
button for 10 seconds and release.

STEP 5
STEP 6
Ensure humidifier drain is properly secured to the humidifier basin. Remove cap from bottom of
drain (if necessary) and apply Teflon tape to threaded section of drain. Attach the AutoFlush pump
unit to drain and hand tighten so that the 3/8” tube extends from the right hand side.
Loop the tube to form a reverse U-trap as shown in Figure 3 and attach to one of the barb sides of
the plastic tee. This is critical in order to form a trap to prevent a siphon forming.
Now attach the 8’ section of 3/8” tubing to the other barb on the tee and run it to the floor drain or
condensate pump. Trim the excess drain tube as required. If running into a pipe drain ensure no
more than 6” extends into the drain, secure the end so it will not come loose. Drain tube must not
be kinked, or come in contact with sharp edges and/or hot surfaces.
Shut off the water supply to your humidifier and drain the basin if necessary.
Locate the overflow knock-out below the float opening on the right in-side of the humidifier basin.
Using a screwdriver and hammer, tap the plastic knock-out. Run the edge of the screw driver
around the opening to remove any excess material.
STEP 3
STEP 4
Using a 9/16” wrench thread the brass adapter into the overflow opening in the basin as far as it will
go. (Figure 1). Apply teflon tape to the threaded part of the plastic tee, then thread the tee into
the brass adapter. (Figure 2)
Using the tie-wrap provided, secure the trap as shown in Figure 3. This will ensure that the trap
is maintained.
STEP 7
Insert the Vortex Inhibitor into the drain on the inside of the basin. This reduces the pump pulling
air through the drain and ensures a proper drain of the basin water.

NOTE: The AutoFlush pump unit does not contain a shut-off valve, so it is important to form a
proper ‘trap’ in the drain line to prevent continuous water draining from humidifier.
