INTENDED USE
Specification of Intended Use:
1.
For those living with disability or disease affecting their upper extremities, Obi is intended to increase
the diner’s independence and confidence by providing choice among four compartments of food and
when food is delivered to a region in front of their mouth. Obi is designed for intermittent use of up to
one hour per meal.
2.
For people with upper extremity impairment, this device automates the motion of a human arm during
eating. Through use of a robotic arm, the device becomes an extension of the user, conducting his or
her intent of what and when to eat.
3.
Use of this device involves both an end user (user) and a caregiver.
a.
The caregiver positions the device for optimal use, determines the appropriate Accessibility
Switches, powers on the device, teaches the appropriate food delivery location, cleans and stores
the device.
b.
The user operates the Accessibility Switches to command food delivery and choose among the
bowls.
