Motor Carbon Brush (#8)
Depending on the motor size, motors have 2 or four carbon brushes (i), easily accessible through caps (ii) on
the motor body.
The carbon brushes are a wearing part that requires regular inpection and replacement.
The inspection frequency is stated in the owners manual.
The brushes have a marking that indicates the minimum length.
If the marking is not visible, then the brush most likely is below it and must immediately be replaced.
When replacing carbon brushes, all brushes must be replaced in one job.
use the oppertunity to inspect the motor and the rest of the drivetrain more thorougly and replace heavy or
worn out parts in one job.

1. Make the motor accesible.
Remove the seat and lift up/remove
the rear body panel. Handle the light‘s
wires with care. Light connectors ma
be disconnected, When performing
trouble shooting, the rear lights must
remain connected.
2. Disconnect the batteries.
3. On the motor’s housing, locate the
2 or 4 plastic plugs (i) near the mag-
netic brake and remove these with a
fitting tool.
Caution, the carbon brushes (ii) are
spring loaded and might pop out.
4. Remove and replace all carbon
brushes in one job. Carefully insert the
brushes, not twisting or bending the
springs on the carbon brush.

Possible Issues
Difficulties when driving, e.g. loss of power, erratic drive, hesitation
Case
a) cap missing or loose, carbon brush missing or has no contact to commu-
tator
b) carbon brush worn beyond minimal length
Solution
a) inspect, esp. for dirt, clean and replace cap and brush
b) inspect and compare all brushes, wear must be comparably similar
