If the fireplace was operating prior to servicing allow at least 10 minutes for light
bulbs and heating elements to cool off to avoid accidental burning of skin.
Disconnect circuit power before attempting any maintenance or cleaning to
reduce the risk of electric shock or damage to persons.
TO REPLACE FLAME MOTOR/FLAME ROD
1. Open the steel curtains (remove glass doors if applicable).
2. Remove the log grate retaining screws and remove the log grate.
3. Pull the rear edge of the log set forward by grasping the ember bed by the
sides (handle the log set only by the ember bed and not the logs) and
pulling firmly until the rear tab pops out from under the back ledge, then lift
out.
4. Locate and remove the screw under the glass on the same side as the
switches.
5. Reach into the fireplace opening, remove the screw and the inner access
plate.
6. Disconnect the flame motor wiring from the circuit board by gently pulling
off the terminal connections from the circuit board.
7. Lift the flame rod up by pulling up on the flame rod on the opposite side of
the motor.
8. Remove the screws from the flame mounting bracket and remove the
flame rod and motor assembly.
9. Remove the flame motor mounting bracket from motor assembly and
install on the replacement flame motor.
NOTE:
When removing the flame motor some damage may occur to the
flame rod. If flame rod is damaged replace to insure proper operation.
10. To remove the flame rod attach needle nose pliers to the spring on the
motor shaft and pull while rotating in the opposite direction of the spring
winding.
11. To replace the flame rod attach needle nose pliers to the flame rod spring
and push onto the flame motor shaft while rotating in the opposite
direction of the spring winding.
