This is to verify that the food waste disposer/grinder models included in the product series 500, 500A, 

500V, 500RS, 500EX, GTS-E65 and GTS-Mini manufactured by Disperator AB, Sweden, for installation 

as food waste handling equipment on ships and platforms, are, with respect to the size ofthe ground food 

waste, in compliance with MARPOL Annex V REGULATIONS FOR THE CONTROL OF 

POLLUTION BY GARBAGE FROM SHIPS, as amended in 2019. 

Excerpts from applicable regulations: 

Regulation 4 

Discharge of garbage outside special areas 

Discharge ofthe following garbage into the sea outside special areas shall only be permitted while the ship is en route 

and as far as practicable from the nearest land, but in any case not less than: 

.1 

3 nautical miles from the nearest land for food wastes which have been passed through a comminuter or 

grinder.  Such comminuted or ground food wastes shall be capable of passing through a screen with openings 

no greater than 25 mm. 

Regulation 5 

Special requirements for discharge of garbage from jixed or jloating platforms 

Food wastes may be discharged into the sea from fixed or floating platforms located more than 12 nautical miles from 

the nearest land and from all other ships when alongside or within 500 m of such platforms, but only when the wastes 

have been passed through a comminuter or grinder.  Such comminuted or ground food wastes shall be capable of 

passing through a screen with openings no greater than 25 mm. 

Regulation 6 

Discharge of garbage within special areas 

1  Discharge ofthe following garbage into the sea within special areas shall only be permitted while the ship is en route 

and as follows: 

.1 

Discharge into the sea offood wastes as far as practicable from the nearest land, but not less than 12 nautical 

miles from the nearest land or the nearest ice shelf.  Food wastes shall be comminuted or ground and shall be 

capable of passing through a screen with openings no greater than 25 mm.
