CEFAR FEMINA comprises five preset programs that are designed to alleviate pain and other discomforts that you
will experience before, during and after birth. This program guide will help you to choose the right program for your
varying needs during this time. It will also give you recommendations for electrode placement, body position, stimula-
tion intensity and treatment time. To each program is at least one electrode placement number, which refers to the
suggested electrode placements shown in the cover of the manual.
7. PROGRAM GUIDE
PROGRAM 1
PAIN RELIEF – CHILDBIRTH
This program is intended for pain relief during childbirth
and is used together with a hand switch.
By using CEFAR FEMINA during labour and delivery you
can control your pain relief yourself, you can remain
mobile while using it and it does not impair your con-
sciousness. The hand switch lets you quickly switch
between basic stimulation (between contractions)
and intensive stimulation (during contractions). TENS
is most effective for back pain during the first stage of
labour.
TENS provides safe and natural pain relief with no side
effects for you or your baby. It can be used as the sole
treatment or in addition to other forms of analgesics.
Recommended intensity
Basic stimulation (between contractions): Increase the
amplitude gradually until you feel a distinct, yet com-
fortable stimulation.
Intensive stimulation (during contractions): Increase the
amplitude gradually until you reach a strong but not
painful stimulation.
Recommended treatment time
According to your needs.
Preset program time
No preset time is set for this program.
Electrode placement
Place the electrodes in the painful area. Try different
electrode placements until the stimulation covers the
whole painful area. Use 2 or 4 electrodes depending on
the location of the pain and the size of the area you want
to cover.
If you have pain in the front, you should place one of the
electrodes in the groin area, and the other electrode (on
the same cord) on the outer part of the hip or on the
back. Do not place electrodes directly over the uterus or
connect pairs of electrodes across the abdomen.
It is important that you change the positions of the
electrodes if the painful area moves as the labour pro-
gresses.
Electrode placement number:
1, 2, 3
PROGRAM 2
PAIN RELIEF – PELVIS, BACK, NECK
This program can be used whenever you feel pain in
pelvis, back or neck/shoulders during and after preg-
nancy.
These kinds of pain are common discomforts during
pregnancy and are due to the increased strain put on
your body and to hormonal changes that loosen your
ligaments and joints.
TENS has been proven to provide effective relief from
these pains and may sometimes be sufficient on its
own, but can also be used as a valuable complement
to other forms of treatment, for example physical
exercises.
Recommended intensity
Increase the amplitude gradually until the tingling
sensation is a little bit stronger than the existing pain
without eliciting muscle contractions.
Recommended treatment time
Each stimulation session should last at least 30 minutes
and can be performed whenever you need pain relief.
Preset program time
30 minutes.
Electrode placement
Place the electrodes on the painful area.
Electrode placement number:
3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9
PROGRAM 3
MASSAGE
This program can be used during pregnancy and after
birth when muscles are tense.
