Chapter 1 – Machine Description and Specifications
1.1 Description
The Tipper Tie RS4203 is a multi-purpose,
automated double clipper with
a user-friendly programmable touch screen user interface. The RS4203
handles soft and hard emulsions as well as whole muscle meat products
ranging in size from 2 to 7 inches (50 to 180 mm) in diameter and up to 64
inches (162 cm) in length. Products are securely clipped using shirred
fibrous, collagen, cellulose, cook-in-plastic casings, and casing net.
The machine handles a wide variety of products including fresh and dry
sausage, smoked and cooked meats, and processed poultry in addition to
glues, sealants, and explosives in a broad range of package sizes.
The RS4203 is compact and portable and connects to all conventional pumps, fillers and portioners. Two
types of clippers are available, depending on product and application: The Z4270M, which uses stick clips
or the Z4270RP, which uses reel-fed clips for longer run times. The machine uses a gathering system
which voids product from the area where the clips are applied to ensure clean casing tails. The stroke of
the casing voider is adjustable and permits the RS4203 to produce air free, slack-filled packages.
The electronic programmable controller (PLC) provides precise control of all machine functions and rapid
clip cycle time. A state-of-the-art user interface includes a programmable touch screen through which the
operator can easily set and change operating parameters and which provides automatic machine
diagnostics for machine status and troubleshooting. The system is operator friendly and very reliable.
1.2 Operation
The RS4203 has an easy-to-use interface display unit or touchscreen
which provides a simple and useful means of communication between
the operator and the machine’s processing unit. The interface display
unit allows the operator to change a variety of timers, counters, and
ON/OFF functions within the
programmable controller (PLC).
This versatility permits fine tuning of the RS4203
for a variety of
applications. The interface display unit helps the operator to achieve
optimum performance by providing the ability to compensate for any
changes that might occur in a particular product application.
Communication with the interface display unit is bi-directional. It not only requests and accepts
information from the operator, but also informs the operator of irregular conditions, warnings, and faults
that can occur during operation. An especially useful feature is the troubleshooting capability which is
integrated in the PLC and accessible through the interface display unit.
Operating the machine is a simple process. After the machine is readied for operation and the emergency
stop button is reset (twisted clockwise), the machine performs a series of automatic start-up functions.
Following a successful startup, the RUN screen appears on the interface display unit’s touchscreen
display. At this point, the operator can use the touchscreen to select an operating mode or to change the
operating parameters. The default startup mode is the “automatic mode.” If a single cycle is desired, the
operator can select the “manual mode” at this time.
