2.6 Heating for the first time
1
Open the primary and secondary air sliders as far as they will go.
Open the lockable cast-iron grate, if your model has one.
To light the fire, lay two logs flat on the firebox floor, pile smaller firewood on top, and place
commercially available kindling at the very top. Please refer to the ‘Technical Information’ data
sheet for more details.
2
During this ignition phase, your stove system is still ‘cold’; the stove, flue and chimney have not yet
reached the necessary operating temperature. It helps to leave the firebox door slightly ajar for
the first few minutes to ensure maximum oxygen supply while the fire is developing. This speeds
up the process of getting the stove system up to operating temperature. Do not forget to close
the stove door again.
3
Once the ignition phase is complete, do not add more fuel until the fire has burnt down to
the base embers. Open the firebox door slowly to allow the negative pressure to equalise and
prevent flue gases from escaping. To speed up the process of pressure equalisation, it helps to
open a window in the room where the stove is installed before lighting it. Now add fuel, lock the
stove door and close the primary air supply.
4
Do not add fuel too early. It is very important to avoid the build-up of an ember cone on the
firebox floor by adding fuel too early.
2.7 Correct operation
1
If necessary, remove ashes from the firebox and empty the ash box or tray if full.
Charcoal remnants from the previous burn do not need to be removed.
2
Light the stove as already described.
3
Primary and secondary air must be regulated during the combustion process depending on the
draught conditions of your chimney and the fuel in use. You can find tips for these settings in the
‘Technical Information’ data sheet. Once the fire has reached the base embers stage, the primary
air slider is usually closed, which means that the combustion air is no longer supplied to the com-
bustion process from below. The secondary air slider remains open. Depending on the chimney
draught, the quality of the wood and the position of the air slider, it takes around 45 minutes to
burn down a fuel source.
4
Do not add fuel until the fire has burnt down to the base embers and the flames have gone out.
Open the firebox door slowly so that the negative pressure can equalise and no flue gases escape.
5
Follow the same instructions when adding the next fuel source.
Warning! It can be dangerous to restrict the air supply too much. As a general rule, wood
cannot be used for excessively restricted low-load operation! The negative consequences
of this include smouldering fire with condensate and tar formation, strong accumulation of
soot and smoke (pollutant emission, unwanted smoke), and even hazardous deflagration.
