3.10 Troubleshooting
The stove does not draw properly or smokes out when refuelled
Is the chimney feed pressure OK?
Does the chimney have the appropriate dimensions and insulation?
Is the chimney/flue properly sealed? Are the connections sealed?
Is it impossible for the flue to protrude into the chimney?
Is the door of another stove connected to this chimney open?
Is the wood used dry (<19% residual moisture) and is it the right size?
Is the baffle in the correct position?
Is there no negative pressure in the installation room?
The stove does not provide enough heat
Is the installation room too large for the stove?
Is the grate open?
Is the ash pan/box empty?
Is the flue open?
Are the primary and secondary air supplies open?
Is the connection between the stove and the chimney properly sealed?
Is the wood used dry and is it the right size?
The stove provides too much heat
Are the primary air and secondary air supplies too wide open?
Is the firebox door locked tight? Is the ash box fully closed?
Is the chimney feed pressure too high?
Is there too much fuel?
The window is heavily soiled
Are the door and window seals functioning properly? If the firebox door is not properly sealed,
the wrong type of combustion air can make its way in and contaminate the windows.
Have you added the right amount of fuel?
Is the wood used dry and is it the right size?
Is the fire getting enough oxygen and burning with a bright flame?
Is the chimney draught OK? If the chimney is too high or too low, this can lead to black windows.
