L1315004 Installation guide for DucoBox Energy Premium (Revision H | 10.02.2020)
Frost protection
There is a possibility at low outdoor temperatures that the moisture in the
exhaust air will condense in the heat exchanger The DucoBox Energy Pre-
mium features various mechanisms to counter this condensate freezing:
• The unit can be equipped with a heating element (= optional) to add heat
to the outdoor air in order to prevent it from freezing up
• In addition to this, the unit will adjust air flow rates such that freezing up
will be prevented (= temporary imbalance method)
The frost symbol ( ) will be shown on the display whenever frost protecti-
on is in operation
The electric heating element (if fitted) can be deactivated, frost protection
itself cannot be deactivated The unit will adjust flow rates when the hea-
ting element is deactivated in order to prevent freezing up However, Duco
advises against changing the standard settings

What happens if there is a freeze-up?
If, despite the built-in frost-protection mechanisms, the DucoBox Energy Premium should freeze up
solid in exceptional circumstances, this will be shown on the display As a result, the DucoBox Energy
Premium will shut down all ventilation temporarily for 8 hours, after which it will attempt to start
up the ventilation again If the unit is still frozen, it will shut down the ventilation permanently If this
is the case, once the unit has thawed out completely, the occupant needs to withdraw the plug and
re-insert it in order to restart the ventilation
