Taking care of your notebook will reduce the risk of damage to your device and
ensure that it operates properly.
To help you maintain the quality and function of your notebook, this chapter
provides guidelines on how to protect, store, clean, and travel with your device.
Protecting Your Notebook
To safeguard the integrity of the data stored on your notebook as well as the
device, please follow the precautions described below:
Install an anti-virus program to monitor potential viruses that could damage
your files.
Use a Kensington cable lock to protect your notebook against theft. Cable
locks are available for purchase from online retailers and in most stores that
sell computers.
To use the lock, loop the lock cable around a stationary object such as a
table. Then, insert the lock into the Kensington lock hole and turn the key to
secure the lock. Store the key in a safe place.
Storing and Handling Your

General Storage and Handling Guidelines
Use your notebook at the recommended temperature—between 0°C (32°F)
and 55°C (131°F)—to ensure optimal performance (Actual operating
temperature depends on product specifications.)
Avoid placing your notebook in a location subject to high humidity, extreme
temperatures, mechanical vibrations, direct sunlight, or heavy dust. Using
your device in extreme environments for long periods of time can result in
product deterioration and a shortened product life.
Do not place heavy objects on top of the notebook as this may damage the
display.
Do not operate in an environment with metallic dust.
Store and use your notebook on a flat and steady surface. Do not stand the
