s serial No.
2.2 Installation precautions
Please ensure this unit is connected to a correct power supply and where possible use a surge
protection device.
2.2.1 Install HD
This DVR uses serial type SATA hard drives and has no master/slave settings.
2.2.1.1 How to choose hard disks
High speed HD 7200 rpm or more is recommended. About brand, the Samsung HDD is
strongly recommended.
2.2.1.2 How to choose HDD size
1. Single HD capacity
For single HD, the user can fit a 10Gb minimum HDD, but for better stability, 160G-500Gb
HDD is recommended.
2
How to calculate the total capacity of HDDs
The computing formula of total HDD size is:
The total capacity (M) = channel numbers * recording hours * HDD used per hour(M/h)
So we can get the computing formula of recording hours:
recording hours= the total capacity (M)
HDD used per hour (M/h)
DVR adopts MPEG4/H.264 compression technology. This technology will produce
considerable dynamic range when compressing data. So when you calculate the total HD
capacity, you should estimate the average HDD capacity per hour per channel.
For example:
For 4-ch DVR, the average capacity of HDD used per hour per channel is 200M/h. Now if
you hope the DVR can record for 30 days with 24 hours per day, the total capacity of HDD
needed is: 4 channels * 30 days * 24 hours * 200 M/h = 576Gb. So you need to install two
300Gb HDDs or four 160G HDDs.
2.2.1.3 HDD installation (see chapter 3 for installation diagram)
Data ribbons & fastening screws are provided in the accessories supplied for installing the
maximum number of HDDs.
One point you should take special attention of, is that this DVR takes Serial ATA hard drives.
These have no master or slave jumpers. After HDD installation, please check connection of
data ribbons and power cords, then refit the outer cover.
