GOVERNOR COMPRESSION SPRING
ADJUSTMENT
CAUTION
If the governor requires service, the
service must be performed by an autho
rized E-Z-GO service branch or distributor who will reseal the
governor after calibration.
Tampering with or adjusting the governor to permit the vehicle
to operate at above the factory governed setting of 12 - 15 mph
(19-24 kph) will void the warranty.
Hold the governor compression spring adjuster rod when
removing/adjusting the compression spring jam nut. Failure to
hold this joint will cause the accelerator cable to twist which may
cause premature failure.
Loosen the compression spring jam nut (33) (Ref Fig. 7
on page F-5).
Pre-adjust the governor compression spring (34) by
rotating the adjuster (35) until a dimension of 1 3/4" (44
mm) is achieved between the inside of the cup washers
(36).
Tighten the jam nut (33). This dimension is a pre-adjust
ment and may be further adjusted after the road test.
Road Test
Install the negative(-) battery cable.
Test drive the vehicle and confirm that the compression
spring adjustment results in a maximum speed of 15 mph
(24 kph) when driven at governed speed (100 yards in 14
seconds). If the speed is not within the specified speed
range, stop the vehicle and adjust the governor compres
sion spring as described in procedure above.
Repeat the test and adjustment until the factory recom
mended governed speed is achieved. Tightening the
spring results in a speed increase while loosening it will
result in a speed decrease.
Seal the governor after calibrating the vehicle.
