the transmission remains locked in the neutral position.
To operate the transmission, pull the pin out and rotate
until the pointed portion of the pin handle fits into the
detent position in the transmission shift lever.
ROUTINE MAINTENANCE
This vehicle will give years of satisfactory service, provid
ing it receives regular maintenance. Refer to the Periodic
Service Schedule at the end of this chapter (Ref Fig. 23
on page A-11) for appropriate service intervals. Refer to
Lubrication Points for appropriate lubrication locations
(Ref Fig. 5 on page A-3).
CAUTION
Do not use more than three (3) pumps
of grease in each grease fitting at any
one time. Excess grease may cause grease seals to fail or
grease migration into areas that could damage components.

Some maintenance items must be serviced

driving conditions.
POWERTRAIN MAINTENANCE
Access the powertrain by raising or removing seat. Some
service procedures may require the vehicle be lifted.
Refer to LIFTING THE VEHICLE in section 'B' for proper
lifting procedure and safety information.
Checking the Oil Level

may cause smoking or allow oil to enter
The oil should be checked with the engine warm and the
vehicle on a level surface with the parking (PARK) brake

locked. Allow adequate time for oil to drain into the crank
case before checking.
Remove the dipstick and wipe off the entire area indi
cated with a lint free cloth (Ref Fig. 6 on page A-3).

Insert the dipstick
fully
into the dipstick hole and remove.
Examine the level of the oil on the dipstick.
The engine can be operated safely as long as the oil is
within the safe operating range as indicated on the dip
stick.
Do not operate vehicle if oil level is below the
'Add' area on the dipstick.
Oil should be added to bring the level into the safe oper
ating range. Remember that oil expands as it gets hot,

oil cap is firmly in place.
