MAINTENANCE ORGANISATION
4.2.1
Maintenance description
System maintenance comprises those operations required to maintain a system in a given
state or to return it to that state, or to restore operating characteristics specified by the
manufacturer.
There are 3 levels of TETRAPOL system maintenance, defined in accordance with the
complexity of the maintenance operations in question and in accordance with the
resources, skills and length of time required to carry out such operations:
• O level (Organisational)
• I level (Intermediate)
• D level (Depot)
A description of the maintenance procedure is given in Figure 4.1.
This manual deals exclusively with O level operations. A definition of this level is given in
Section 1.5.
IDR IDO 3G base station maintenance operations can be divided into preventive
maintenance and corrective maintenance.
The operator on site intervenes to locate the defective sub-assembly and return the
IDR IDO 3G to operating condition.
4.2.2
Preventive Maintenance
Preventive maintenance is performed at regular intervals in order to reduce the probability
of a failure or deterioration in system operations.
It comprises:
• checking operations, recorded in P sheets (see Section 4.4.4),
• preventive replacement operations, recorded in E sheets (see Section 4.5.3).
4.2.3
Corrective Maintenance
This is carried out following an equipment, assembly or sub-assembly failure or a software
anomaly.
A corrective maintenance operation is initialised by the operator on site, following detection
of an anomaly during a preventive maintenance operation or a fault signalled by an LED.
Corrective maintenance involves two types of procedure:
• troubleshooting,
• replacement.
