EVHF106 Series Portable Lighting
Fixture for Hazardous Locations
Installation & Maintenance Information

IF 1700
APPLICATION
The EVHF106 S714 portable hand lamp is used to
provide task lighting in hazardous (classified) locations.
When properly installed, EVHF106 hand lamps are
suitable for use in Class I, Groups C, D (26 watts
maximum) and Class II, Group G (26 watts maximum)
locations as defined by the National Electrical Code
®
.
The standard EVHF106 S714 hand lamp is designed for
use with #16/3 type SOOW portable cord only. Portable
cord to be: 90
º
C 600 Volt UL/CSA, current Amps
13. Cord size 0.390-0.625. Cord is to be supplied by
installer. Cord to be rated “Extra Hard Usage” (per
NEC501.140(B)(1).
Note:
This portable lighting fixture include a 26W
compact fluorescent lamp (Type: Energy Saver T2,
Model: EL-md T2 26W) by Phillips.
DISASSEmbLy FOR wIRINg & LAmPINg
1. Loosen handle locking set screw (1) and unscrew
black plastic handle assembly (2) from guard and
globe assembly (3). DO NOT disassemble the
metal ring and glass globe.
2. Loosen cord clamp (7) from connector housing (8)
by loosening the two attachment screws (9).
3. Remove locking screw (10) that holds the handle
and connector housing together. Save this locking
screw for later replacement.
4. Unscrew the connector housing from the handle.
wIRINg AND REASSEmbLy
1. Insert end of #16/3 type SOOW cord (11) through
cord support bushing (6), connector housing (8),
spacer (5) and cord grip assembly (4). (Loosen 4
screws on cord grip assembly just short of removal
and push cord through grips approximately 6
inches).
2. Remove outer covering of cord 7/8” and strip end
of each wire in the cable 3/8” for connections to
the three pressure connectors (12) as follows:
a. Attach grounding wire (green) to terminal marked
“G” (green colored connector).
b. Attach grounded wire (white) to terminal marked
“W” (nickel plated connector).
c. Attach third wire (black) to the remaining terminal
(copper). Make certain there are no loose strands
of wire outside the connectors.
3. Slide cord grip assembly toward handle to engage
locating notches in handle.
wARNINg
DO NOT disassemble the cast metal guard/glass
globe assembly. Disassembly of the globe portion of
the hand lamp is limited to removing the guard/globe
assembly from the black plastic handle assembly.
CAUTION
Use only #16/3 type SOOW portable cord with
EVHF106 S714 hand lamp.
4. Make sure cord insulating jacket extends fully
through cord grip assembly (push down on cord)
and tighten 4 screws in cord grip assembly. If
the 4 screws were removed during disassembly,
be sure the indicating arrows are properly aligned
when reassembling and tightening.
5. Slide spacer against cord grip assembly.
6. A silicone base lubricant has been applied at the
factory on “O” ring and handle threads of black
plastic handle assembly (2). Reapply if required.
7. Make sure cord grip assembly is properly
positioned on locating notches in handle. Thread
connector housing (8) fully over handle.
8. Replace locking screw (10) in handle.
9. Slide cord support bushing (6) tight against spacer,
protruding through connector housing.
10. Fully tighten screws (9) on cord clamp (7), onto
connector housing (8).
11. Install lamp in lamp holder (See nameplate for
proper lamp designation and wattage) and securely
tighten lamp into place.
12. Replace guard and globe assembly onto handle
until fully and completely tightened.
13. Securely tighten the handle locking set screw.
mAINTENANCE
1. The glass globe should be cleaned on a regular
basis to maintain optimum lighting performance.
2. At the time of cleaning, inspect globe and guard
for tightness. If loose, retighten and lock with set
screw.
3. Check cord for abrasion, cuts, or breaks. Replace if
necessary.
4. Perform visual, electrical, and mechanical
inspections on a regular basis. This should be
determined by the environment and frequency
of use; however, it is recommended that a
check should be made at lease once a year. We
recommend an Electrical Preventative Maintenance
Program as described in the National Fire
Protection Association Bulletin NFPA No. 70B.
Note:
For this portable lighting fixture use Phillips
compact fluorescent lamps type Energy Saver
T2. Models: EL-md T2 23W & EL-md T2 26W) by
Phillips.

during maintenance.

Globe is tempered explosionproof glass and if
scratched or chipped it must be immediately
replaced to prevent equipment and/or personal
damage or injury.
CAUTION
Globe/guard assembly is factory sealed and must not
be disturbed. For globe replacement, please contact
your Crouse-Hinds ECM Sales Representative or the
Sales/Service Department in Syracuse.
