2.1 Safety instructions
a
Target group:
For skilled electricians and suitable
qualified, instructed personnel
in accordance with national legislation,
including the relevant standards and, where
applicable, in acc. with
IEC/EN 60079-14 on electrical apparatus for
explosive atmospheres.
Ex-d control stations and distributions
without complete certification must not be
used in hazardous areas. The Ex-d enclosure
are not suitable for Zone 0 and Zone 20
hazardous areas.
The requirements of the IEC/EN 60079-0 and
IEC/EN 60079-31 regarding excessive dust
deposits and temperature shall be taken
consideration by the user.
Modifications to the distributions or design
changes are not permitted.
The apparatus shall be used for the
intended purpose and shall be in a perfect
and clean state.
Repairs that affect the explosion protection
may only be carried out by Cooper Crouse-
Hinds / EATON or by a qualified electrician in
compliance with the respective national
regulations.
Before initial operation, any foreign matter
shall be removed from the distribution
enclosures.
The operator is required to ensure that the
overall current of the control station does
not exceed the values stated in the technical
data and on the type label.
Control station and distributions mounted
on free-standing frameworks shall be
safeguarded against falling over.
Before initial operation, any foreign matter
shall be removed from the apparatus.
Observe the national safety rules and
regulations for prevention of accidents as
well as the safety instructions included in
these operating instructions that, like this
text, are set in italics!
3
Conformity with standards
The apparatus is conform to the standards
specified in the EU-Declaration of conformity,
enclosed separately.
References to standards and directives in these
operating instructions always relate to the latest
version. Other additions (e.g. details relating to
the year) shall be observed.
4
Field of application
The control stations and distributions are
suitable for use in Zone 1, 2 and 21, 22
hazardous areas acc. to IEC/EN 60079-10-1
and IEC/EN 60079-10-2.
The enclosure materials used, including any
external metal parts, are high quality materials
that ensure a corrosion resistance and
resistance to chemical substances according
to the requirements for use in a ”normal
industrial atmosphere”:
– Ex-d enclosure
– aluminium alloy with polyester
coating Ex-e terminal box
– stainless steel
– sheet steel, painted
Additional information on the resistance of
the materials used to chemical substances
when used in extremely aggressive atmos-
pheres can be obtained from your branch of
Cooper Crouse-Hinds.
5
Use / Properties
The Ex-d control stations and distributions are
used, within the limitations of the permissible
power loss, to distribute electrical energy and
control equipment, machinery, pumps, motors etc.
The control function is accomplished by means
of the electrical apparatus installed in the
explosion-protected control unit or other
components that produce sparks arcing or hot
surfaces during operation or in the event of
malfunction (e.g. switches, fuses, contactors,
relays, terminals or busbars), non-sparking
electrical or mechanical devices. Control and
display elements can be operated and viewed
with the appropriately certified actuators
(widows).
The intended use does not include applica-
tions with high-charging processes. Those
could be for example high-voltage sources
generating ion-winds or pneumatically
transported dust atmospheres in touch with
the enclosure.
The safety switches are designed for the safe
all-pole isolation of the electrical power during
the maintenance, cleaning or repair of
installations, machines and drives in hazardous
areas.
See technical data, for the temperature class,
explosion group and permissible ambient
temperature.
Due to the AC 23 (IEC/EN 60947-3) motor
switching capacity of the safety switches,
reliable isolation (switching) is also possible
during operation.
In addition to this, the safety switches are so
designed, that they also switch off the drive,
e.g. via the contactor with auxiliary contacts
that precedes the main contacts. In relation to
the main contacts, this auxiliary contacts are
lagging while making and leading while
breaking.
Specially marked auxiliary contacts of the safety
switches can be used in ”intrinsically safe
circuits”.The electrical limiting values that are
decisive for the intrinsic safety shall be
observed.
The temperature class, explosion group and
permissible ambient temperature can be found
in the technical data.
The control station and distributions may be
ordered with an optional seal in the enclosure
cover (see Fig. 1). With the appropriate actuator
and cable entries, the enclosures may be used
in areas requiring the degree of protection IP66
in accordance with IEC/EN 60529.
The enclosure cover can be ordered with a
square or round window, d = 90 mm (minimum
length of joint = 6 threads engaged).
If the enclosures and distributions contain
intrinsically safe circuits or Ex-i components,
the electrical limiting values that are
decisive for the ”Intrinsic Safety” shall be
observed.
The data according to sections 3 and 4 shall
be taken into account during use.
During operation the instructions stated in
section 7 of the operating instructions shall
be observed.
