Prior to being put into operation, the apparatus shall be checked in
accordance with the instructions as per section 6.
The national safety rules and regulations for the prevention of
accidents, as well as the safety instructions included in these
operating instructions, that, like this text, are set in italics, shall be
observed!
3
Conformity with standards
They are conform to the standards specified in the attestation of
conformity, enclosed separately.
References to standards and directives in these operating instructions
always relate to the latest version. Other additions (e.g. details relating to
the year) shall be observed.

Field of application
Fully certified empty enclosures that have been tested by a testing
authority or authorized person are suited for use in hazardous areas in
Zone 1, 2 and Zone 21, 22 in accordance with IEC/EN60079-10-1 and
IEC/EN60079-10-2.
The enclosure materials used, including any external metal parts, are high
quality materials which ensure a corrosion protection and resistance to
chemical substances corresponding to the requirements in a “normal
industrial atmosphere”:
- GRP
In case of use in an extremely aggressive atmosphere, you can obtain
information concerning the chemical resistance of the materials used
from your Cooper Crouse-Hinds branch.

Application / Properties
The empty enclosures GBXE have been fully certified by a testing station/
authorized individual after inspection are used, within the limitations of
the permissible power loss, to distribute electrical energy, e.g. for lighting,
heating and control circuits, etc..
Service temperature see technical data.
The empty enclosure GBXE may be used for fitting electrical and
mechanical components.
The empty enclosure GBXE consists of high-quality Glass Reinforced
Polyester with graphite added . Lid and base are screwed together with
stainless steel captive screws.
A groove and tongue system with inserted sealing cord between the lid
and base assures the high protection class (see technical data).
Applications other than those described are not permitted
without Cooper Crouse-Hinds’s / EATON prior written consent.
The user alone is responsible for the appropriate use of this
empty enclosure GBXE in consideration of the basic conditions exist-
ing at the plant (see technical data).
The instructions stated in section 7 of the operating instructions
shall be observed during operation.
The product is protected by patents. For more information, please contact
your local EATON / Cooper Crouse-Hinds GmbH representative.
6 Installation
For the mounting and operation, the respective national regulations as
well as the general rules of engineering will have to be observed
(IEC/EN 60079-14).
The enclosure is mounted through the screw channels lying outside the
sealing space.
When processing the enclosures, attention must be paid to
ensuring that there is suitable minimum spacing between individual
boreholes and from the sealing edge of the enclosure so that the
enclosure with the fittings will be able to withstand an impact test.
The minimum spacing depends on the geometrical dimensions of the
built-in components; a longer lever will require an increase in the
minimum spacing and accordingly must be determined specifically.
In the case of enclosures that have to be set up outside, it may be
necessary to take measures to ensure that operation is in accordance
with the intended use. This would include, for example, roofs as
protection against rain or outer housings with an adequate protection
class.
Enclosures shall be mounted horizontally over the wall or on the
horizontal surfaces.
The chosen screw shall match the fastening hole (see dimensional
drawing) and it must not damage the hole (e. g. use of a washer).
If the screws are overtightened, the apparatus can be damaged.
6.1 Electrical connection
The electrical connection may only be carried out by skilled
staff accordance to IEC/EN 600479-14.
