6.8.2 Acyclic diagnostics
As could already be seen in the configuration, the SWD coupling unit with its
modules appears as a modular DP module. This also applies to the structure
of the diagnostic data. Profibus DP defines for modular modules a standard
access process for diagnostic information. The diagnostics consist of stan-
dard diagnostics header (DP-V0 header), of a likewise standardized module
status and of optionally extended diagnostic messages in the attachment
from one or several modules that report detailed diagnostics. The terms used
in the standard PROFIBUS are used in the following. The designation “Mod-
ule” is synonymous with a SWD module.

6.8.3 Device-specific diagnostics
The device-specific diagnosis consists of the module status block, which pro-
vides general information about the module (SWD module) as well as, if nec-
essary, extended information from SWD modules that are reporting diagno-
ses.
The module status block complies with the standard requirement of the diag-
nosis of a modular DP module from the structure standpoint.
