5 INCH CHIPPER/SHREDDER
SERVICE & MAINTENANCE
WARNING
BEFORE INSPECTING OR SERVICING ANY PART OF THIS MACHINE, SHUT OFF POWER SOURCE,
AND MAKE SURE ALL MOVING PARTS HAVE COME TO A COMPLETE STOP.
1.
Place a blade on the rotor and attach with two 5/16 ×
1" bolts. Torque to 25 ft‑lbs. Repeat for the remaining
blades.
2. Reinstall the discharge screen by placing the top lip
of the screen into the slot under the top slope of the
chipper body and rotating the screen so that the bolt
holes align with the holes in the chipper body.
3.
Secure using two 5/16" × 3/4" bolts and nuts; torque
to 17 ft-lbs.
4. Reinstall the discharge door.
5.5 INSTALLING THE BLADES
Figure 5.3, Examples of Damage to Knives
Do not attempt to sharpen shredder knives. Inspect the
knives often for signs of damage.
If a knife has any sign of cracking or is broken in any way,
it should be replaced immediately.
5.6 SHREDDER KNIVES MAINTENANCE
5.
Remove an equal amount off each blade to maintain
rotor balance.
6. Small imperfections such as nicks and burrs on
the flat side of the blade will not affect the chipping
performance of the machine.
7. For blades that have been repeatedly sharpened,
ensure that the sharpened surface extends past
the chipping slot opening. If it does not extend past
the opening, the blades should be replaced (see
Section 5.3).
1. Remove the discharge door and discharge screen.
2. Remove the rear side access cover.
3. Work with one knife shaft at a time. Remove the
#10-24 bolt and nut from the knife shaft and discharge.
Do not reuse.
4. Using a hammer and punch, drive the knife shaft
through the access hole on the rear of the machine.
5. Remove the spacers and shredder knives. Be careful
to keep track of the order the spacers were installed
on the shafts so they can be returned to the original
locations. If the spacers and knives are not installed
correctly, the rotor will be out of balance and will not
have proper shredding action.
6. Reverse or replace the knives and reassemble onto
the rotor. Install a new #10-24 bolt and nut through
the spacer and shaft. Torque to 36 in-lbs.
7. Repeat for remaining shafts.
8. Replace the rear access cover, discharge screen and
discharge door. Torque all 5/16" bolts to 17 ft‑lbs.
5.7 REMOVING THE SHREDDER KNIVES
The serrated edge of the shredder knives should face
the same direction as the cutting edge of the chipper
blades. Never reuse the #10-24 nut and bolt. Never
reuse shafts or spacers if they show signs of wear or
abuse. Always install new parts when repairing.
