1. Gently pull the tripod legs apart as far as they will go.
2. Press down on the center of the
tripod supports until the tripod
locks into position.
3. Turn the vertical lock knob in the
counterclockwise direction to
remove it.
4. Place the telescope over the tripod
mount and line up the holes. Push
the screw through the holes and
then secure it by turning the knob in

FIRST THINGS FIRST! (before you use My First Telescope)
Welcome to the world of exploration. The GeoSafari
®
Jr. My First Telescope is
designed to be the perfect telescope for little ones who have only used their eyes to
look into the distance and are just getting started with science tools. It allows budding
scientists to practice mounting a telescope, scanning the sky, and pointing to the
correct direction of their environment to view objects.
We’ve accomplished this by following a couple simple rules:
1. Kids only!
Ok. We’re kidding… sort of. The truth is that the comfy two-eye goggle eyepiece and
nose cutouts were designed for kids. That means if an adult (parent) like you looks into the
telescope… it won’t look quite right. We designed our My First Telescope based on children’s
pupillary distance. This is the measure of the distance between an individual’s pupils, and is
always measured in millimeters.
2. Distance matters
As you might guess, a telescope is designed to view things in the distance. If the item you
are trying to look at isn’t at least 100 feet (30 meters) away, it will not come into focus. The
design of this telescope is built for preschoolers to keep vision wide, no focusing needed.
Start exploring
Remove the lens cap before viewing. Encourage little explorers to practice adjusting the
telescope up and down. Remind them that it may take several tries to get
the telescope in the exact position in order to see the object closer.
Viewing objects during the day and looking at stationary objects
such as a tree or rooftop is a great first start.
What to expect
The GeoSafari
®
Jr. My First Telescope will provide your child
with moments of discovery and bring distant objects that you
can see with your naked eye, closer, sparking their curiosity.
It is important to note that images in magazines and books
are produced by large observatory telescopes that take
long exposure photographs with special cameras. This is
