3.10 IDE HDD Auto Detection
The Enhance IDE features was included in all Award BIOS. Below is a brief description of this
feature.
1. Setup Changes
<I> Auto-detection
•
BIOS setup will display all possible modes that are supported by the HDD including
NORMAL, LBA & LARGE
.
•
If HDD does not support LBA modes, no ‘LBA’option will be shown.
•
If no of cylinders is less than or equal to 1024, no ‘LARGE’ option will be show
•
Users can select a mode which is appropriate for them.

When HDD type is in ‘user’ type, the “MODE” option will be opened for user to select their
own HDD mode.
(2) HDD Modes
The Award BIOS supports 3 HDD modes : NORMAL, LBA & LARGE
NORMAL mode
Generic access mode in which neither the BIOS nor the IDE controller will make any
transformations during accessing.
