Speaker Configuration: centre speaker, main speaker, rear speaker, subwoofer
Your Home Cinema System consists of a subwoofer and five
acoustically identical satellites that are magnetically shielded.
According to the positioning of the loudspeakers in a room, a
5.1 configuration of a home cinema system consists of:
- centre speaker
(1x)
- main speakers
(2x)
- rear speakers
(2x)
- subwoofer
(1x)
Basic Requirements
The subwoofer should be an active unit for direct connection
to the amplifier (“BASS/LFE”).
You have, in general, 5 passive speakers connected to the
respective 5 amplifier-inputs. For optimal sound reproduction
the 5 passive speakers should be perfectly harmonized,
either being identical or corresponding units, with a magnetically shielded centre speaker. The speakers, like hi-fi
speaker should either transmit full range (abt. 30/40…20.000 HZ) (“LARGE”) or sectional range (abt. 100/200Hz-
….20.000Hz) (“SMALL). If your configuration contains so-called “LARGE”-speakers, they should function as main
speakers
in front areas.
Set-Up
The
main
speakers
shall be positioned next to a TV or monitor within ear-level, each loudspeaker keeping a dis-
tance of 1 m (or more) to the TV or monitor.
The
centre speaker
shall be installed near to the TV or monitor (above or underneath it).
The optimum position for
rear speakers
is sideways behind the listeners, slightly above the height of the listener’s
ear (approx. 40...60cm). The speakers should be directed towards the room, and not towards the listeners.
The
active subwoofer
shall be positioned between the main speakers. To ensure homogenous sound, the distance
between the subwoofer and the listening place should be the same than the distance between the main speakers
and the listening place.
Your dealer provides stands and wall brackets.
Additional speakers:
If your amplifier supports the connection of additional speakers (e.g. rear centre speakers, side speakers or main
speakers), please refer to the manual of your amplifier to gain detailed information on the appropriate installation.
Some ELAC products can be used for upgrading your home cinema system.
