Connection and starting

Important:
Should you intent to use the ELAC complete active subwoofer as a subwoofer alone,
-- without satellite speakers --, you can skip this chapter and continue at page 27, pt.3.
1 SAT OUT L
2 SAT OUT R
Note:
Especially suited as satellite speakers are ELAC 301 and ELAC Starlet.
These are available together with ELAC MicroSUB 2010 BT in 2 combination sets:
ELAC MicroMAGIC 2.1 (with 2 x ELAC 301) and ELAC MicroSTAR 2.1 (with 2 x ELAC Star-
let).
These combinations are perfectly tuned 2.1 speaker systems that guarantee great music
pleasure at minimum space.
But the ELAC complete active subwoofer is also suited for every other satellite speaker.
The internal filtering of lowest frequencies (<80 Hz) saves the satellite speakers from unnec-
essary load in favour of a more efficient and effortless reproduction of mid and high parts of
the spectrum.
The spring-type terminals SAT
OUT L/R allow the connection of 2
satellite speakers (Left, Right) to
the
ELAC
complete
active
subwoofer. Here you can use the
included speaker cables, which go
to the satellites. For clarity the
figure at left shows the “+”-pole in
brighter colour. Of course you can
use other cables than the included
ones.
During cable insertion into the
cross-hole please take some care
in order to avoid short circuit
against the neighbouring clamp or
the housing. Typical HQ speaker
cables today have 2.5 mm² cross-
sections. 1.5 mm² types are sufficient without serious losses up to about 6 meters (20 feet)
with 4-Ohm speakers, and up to 12 meters (40 feet) with 8-Ohm speakers. For much shorter
distances (on the desktop) you can cut the cable and also use less cross-section cable
types.
The satellite speakers used should have “Nominal Impedance” not below 4 Ohms (3 Ohms
minimum). The impedance specification you should find printed on the rear side of the
speaker or the owners manual.
!!! Caution !!!
These Connections are “Outputs”, not “Inputs”.
They are suited solely for connection of passive loudspeakers. Connection to an amplifier
output could result in – worst case - damage to the active subwoofer and/or the amplifier!!!
