GUIDE TO OPERATION
TOASTING NOTES
Before first use, remove all packaging from
the toaster. Ensure that the packaging from
inside the slots of the toaster has been
removed.
Note: Do not use any bread in the toaster
during first use. This allows the new
heating elements to burn off any dust
that may have accumulated during
assembly.
1. Ensure that the crumb tray is correctly
installed and that the toasting lever is in
the up position.
2. The toaster should be placed on a flat
surface away from the wall.
3. Unwind the mains lead and plug it into a
suitable wall socket.
4. Insert slices of bread. Ensure that the
toasting lever is in the UP position.
5. Plug in the mains lead. Press the toasting
lever down until it locks into position. The
cancel and toasting level function indica-
tors light. The display indicates the level
(the default is "1"). The appliance starts.
Select the desired browning level and
other functions.
6. There are 7 browning levels. Select the
desired level (1 is the lightest, 7 the dark-
est).
7. When the toasting cycle has completed
the toast automatically pops up.
8. Disconnect the mains plug after use.
Toasting is a combination of cooking and
drying bread. Moisture levels vary from one
bread to another, which can result in differ-
ent toasting times.
Preheating is not necessary before using
the toaster. When using this appliance for
the first time, do not put any bread into
the toaster. The appliance will emit a little
smoke or gas, which is quite normal.
•
Use a lower browning level than nor-
mal for slightly dry bread.
•
For fresh or whole wheat bread, use a
higher setting than normal.
•
Bread with very uneven surfaces (such
as English muffins) require a higher
browning setting.
•
Thickly cut slices of bread will take
longer to toast, sometimes significantly
longer. This is because more moisture
must evaporate from the bread before
toasting can occur.
•
Very thick slices may require two toast-
ing cycles.
•
When toasting raisin or other types of
fruit bread, remove any loose raisins
from the surface of the bread before
inserting into the toaster. This will help
prevent pieces of fruit from falling into
the toaster or sticking to the guard
wires in the slot.
