About the CX700
Fan Module
The CX700 fan modules (Figure 1-12) cool the two storage processors.
Separate, integrated fans cool the power supplies.
There are three fan
modules, each containing two fans that draw ambient room air
through the front bezel. Each fan module connects directly to the
midplane and is powered by the power supplies. The fans operate at
a lower voltage and speed during normal operation to minimize
acoustic sound. If a fan fails, the voltage and speed of the remaining
fans increase to compensate, resulting in higher acoustic sound.

Fan Module (Front Bezel Removed)
Each fan module has one status light associated with it on the fan
module housing. The status light is described in Chapter 3.
Latches on the fan module hold the module in place.
You can remove the fan module while the
SPE
is powered up. While the
module is removed, the amber LED associated with that module on the front
panel is illuminated. If the fan module is removed for more than
approximately two minutes, the SP is shut down until the fan module is
re-inserted.
