2.
Separate, untwist and unkink the three 80”
motor leads. Route the motor leads through
the downrod. Remove the downrod from the
motor coupling as follows: loosen setscrew in
motor coupling with the 5/32” setscrew
wrench. Remove hairpin clip from end of
clevis pin. Remove clevis pin, then slide
downrod from motor coupling. Retain all pins
and setscrews (Figure 2).
NOTE: If the downrod you are installing is
longer than 36”, skip to Step 9.
NOTE: If you feel that you do not have
enough electrical wiring knowledge or
experience, have your fan installed by a
licensed electrician.
NOTE: This downrod kit can only be used
with Emerson CF3000, CF4000, CF5000 and
CF700 Series fans with unthreaded
downrods.
If your fan already has a short downrod
attached, follow Steps 1 and 2. If no
downrod is presently attached, skip to
Step 3.
1.
Remove the hanger ball from the downrod
(both supplied with your ceiling fan) as
follows: loosen the hanger ball setscrew
(Figure 1) and slide the hanger ball off the
downrod; remove the cross pin. Retain the
hanger ball and cross pin; they will be used in
a later step.
Assembly
To avoid possible electrical shock, be
sure electricity is turned off at the main
fuse or circuit breaker box before wiring.
All wiring must be in accordance with
National and Local Electrical Codes. If
you are not sure the electrical box and
fan are grounded, contact a licensed
electrician for advise. They must be
grounded for safe operation.

3.
Insert motor leads through downrod (Figure
3).
4.
Slide downrod into motor coupling. Align
cross hole in downrod with cross hole in
motor coupling. Insert clevis pin through
motor coupling and cross hole in
downrod carefully to avoid damaging
electrical wires. Slide clevis pin in until it
passes through both sides of motor
coupling (See Figure 3). (Make sure in use
the clevis pin with the flat head).
5.
Insert small hairpin clip into cross hole at end
of clevis pin. Make sure hairpin clip is
securely in place. Tighten setscrew with the
5/32” setscrew wrench.
6.
Slide the ceiling cover down over
downrod. Slide hanger ball over top of
downrod. Slide smooth hanger pin through
cross hole near top of downrod, leaving pin
exposed on both sides (Figure 4). Be careful
not to damage electrical wires.
7.
Slide hanger ball up and engage pin in pin
seats in hanger ball (make sure pin is against
bottom of pin seats). Tighten the setscrew in
the hanger ball securely. Pull and twist on
hanger ball. If downrod/hanger ball assembly
moves, repeat Steps 5 through 7.

8.
Once downrod is installed, measure wire
length above hanger ball to insure that lead
length is between 3 and 9 inches. Cut off
excess lead length with wire cutter, and strip
3/8” of insulation from ends of electrical
leads.
Make connections to household power supply
as per the Owner’s Manual that came with the
fan (use wire connectors supplied with fan).
9.
Cut and remove the wire tie that is around
the black sleeving extending from the motor
assembly (Figure 5).
NOTE: Steps 9 through 13 are for use when
installing a downrod longer than 36” in
length.
10.
Locate the black and blue leads in the
motor connector then pull the black and
blue leads through the motor wireway
(Figure 6).
Failure to install stainless steel screw at
motor and cross pin in the hanger ball,
and failure to securely tighten setscrews
in motor coupling and hanger ball per
instructions could result in fan loosening
and possibly falling.
